Don’t settle

Don’t settle

I am free. After experiencing the worst two years of my life, I have finally finished working at a job where I was exploited, manipulated, bullied and devalued. Read the rest of this entry »

Choose your reward

Choose your reward

For those of you who have been following my blog for a while and have noticed my husband’s snarky “cardio is for suckers” comments, you will be as thrilled as I am that he now has to do daily cardio! He has been leaning out since October and the time has finally come for him to suck it up and do some cardio. Read the rest of this entry »

What motivates you?

What motivates you?

This week, Michelle Bridges boldly stated that there is no such thing as having motivation when it comes to exercise. She said she doesn’t look forward to exercising, and she doesn’t enjoy it when she’s doing it. Contrary to everything I personally believe in, she said no one will ever be overcome by an urge to exercise. Read the rest of this entry »

My antidepressant of choice

My antidepressant of choice

I have been incredibly stressed out over the past couple of weeks. In the past 10 days I have had five feature articles due, at 5000 words a pop. On top of all the writing, consider that each one of those stories involved 5-10 interviews. Then add in the fact that I have so many unrelated tasks to do when I’m in the office that I had to actually take days to work from home to actually get writing done, and you have one stressed little piggy. Managing expectations

Managing expectations

When you’re eating well and working out really hard and not seeing the changes you want, it’s easy to get discouraged. When that’s combined with what seems like a constant bombardment of largely unrealistic images of super svelte fitness models the temptation to throw in the towel is almost too strong. The cookie dough that will give you a six pack

The cookie dough that will give you a six pack

If I let every negative comment get to me I would have already had reason to abandon my fitness goals a thousand times. For reasons unbeknown to me, some people will always insist on bringing you down. As I mentioned in my last post, a number of people have reacted quite negatively to my competition pursuits. Some have told me to my face, some have gossiped about me behind my back, and I’m guessing that even more are just disapproving quietly. Read the rest of this entry »

To all the haters…

To all the haters…

Today was not a good day to piss me off. It was my monthly deadline at work, I had a migraine, and I strangely had no energy when I woke up meaning that my workout was pitiful and painful and left me feeling incredibly depressed. And then I get the same old idiots telling me that I’m crazy for wanting to be a body builder and that I’m going to develop more testosterone than a man. Seriously. Read the rest of this entry »

Man up or man out

Man up or man out

It’s amazing how many excuses people have for being overweight and unfit: “I don’t have time”, “it’s too hard”, “it’s too cold outside”, “everyone else is lazy so why bother?” When you make one excuse after the other, you’re not letting anyone but yourself down. The fit people don’t care if you’re still overweight and unhappy. The only way to move forward and incite change is to cut the crap and just do it. Read the rest of this entry »

Welcome

Welcome

In my day-to-day life, I constantly encounter people who try to drag me down about the way I eat and how devoted I am to the gym. But I hope that through my posts someone might feel inspired by me, in the same way I find inspiration in other women. Read the rest of this entry »
