My antidepressant of choice

My antidepressant of choice

I have been incredibly stressed out over the past couple of weeks. In the past 10 days I have had five feature articles due, at 5000 words a pop. On top of all the writing, consider that each one of those stories involved 5-10 interviews. Then add in the fact that I have so many unrelated tasks to do when I’m in the office that I had to actually take days to work from home to actually get writing done, and you have one stressed little piggy. From duck booty to duck head

From duck booty to duck head

Firstly, thank you all for your kind comments and messages on my last post. I think I may have slightly overreacted at the prospect of leaning up but it was really only because I didn’t want to hamper my progress by cutting too soon, not because I’m afraid of dieting – because I’m not! Time to get shredded

Time to get shredded

Today I saw my trainer to get my new diet and training program. Let’s just say I didn’t see this coming. While my training hasn’t changed significantly, my diet plan has been completely turned on its head. I am going from eating so much that I sometimes feel sick to now doing a crazy low-carb diet that will really test my willpower like never before. Read the rest of this entry »

Managing expectations

Managing expectations

When you’re eating well and working out really hard and not seeing the changes you want, it’s easy to get discouraged. When that’s combined with what seems like a constant bombardment of largely unrealistic images of super svelte fitness models the temptation to throw in the towel is almost too strong. Oh the pain!

Oh the pain!

One of the only unwanted side-effects of weight lifting I’ve experienced is tight muscles. The pros usually get massaged daily, but most of us mere mortals don’t have that luxury. However, recent developments have left me equal parts happy and pained… Read the rest of this entry »

Protein power

Protein power

When it comes to training and eating, one of the things that annoys me most (there are many!) is when people screw their nose up when I drink my protein shakes. They tell me I’m drinking chemicals and that I’m going to develop the muscles of a man from drinking them, ignoring the fact that there are a whole host of benefits to be gained from protein powder. Ball recap

Ball recap

On Friday night I attended the annual financial markets ball. I was in and out of Melbourne in less than 24 hours and it was freezing! It was 12 degrees Celcius (54 F) which is the coldest temperature I’ve felt all year and far too cold for spring. Definitely not going to be moving to Melbourne any time soon. Deadlifts demystified

My all-time favourite training move is deadlifts. As a compound exercise, they work your entire body and I recommend that everyone should incorporate at least one type of deadlift into their workout. However, it can be confusing to pick a type given the number of variations out there. Read the rest of this entry »

Implant pressure

Implant pressure

One thing that is not often mentioned much when discussing training for a figure competition is what happens to your breasts. I will try to keep the attention of my male readers (it may come as a surprise that almost half of my subscribers are men!) with plenty of appropriately-placed photos, but the issue is one I wanted to address as many people have asked me for my opinion.
